On June 3, 1954, one hundred and twenty-five law enforcement officers held a meeting in the Municipal Court Building in Jackson, Mississippi. Their goal was to improve law enforcement in Mississippi. During this meeting the Mississippi Law Enforcement Officers Association (MLEOA) was organized.

One of the main objectives of MLEOA members from the very beginning was providing training. During that time officers joined the ranks with little or no training. In many cases they were ill equipped and poorly prepared to cope. MLEOA members dedicated themselves to training, professionalism and the creation of a central training facility. As a result the minimum standards were established in 1981.

MLEOA continues to be instrumental in efforts to enhance law enforcement. With almost 2,500 members MLEOA is the largest law enforcement organization in Mississippi. Its membership includes officers from federal, state and local law enforcement agencies in our state.

Scholarship Opportunities

Each year, the association awards three (3) $1,000.00 scholarships to dependants of our membership.  An application is available for download and must be submitted by May 15th of each year to be eligible for consideration.  A committee reviews all applications and awards the top three applicants during the annual summer conference.  Click here for more in formation and an application.

The association recently partnered with Columbia Southern University (CSU) to offer scholarship opportunities to members and their famalies.  One of the nation’s first completely online universities, Columbia Southern University (CSU) was established to meet the demand for alternatives to the traditional university experience. All degree programs are offered completely online, giving you the flexibility to fit your education around career and family commitments.

Associate, bachelor, master and doctoral programs are available in a variety of fields including fire science, business management and administration, information technology, human resource management, and occupational safety and health.  Undergraduate and graduate certificate programs are also available to provide focused training in specialized areas.

Apply today and open the doors to an exciting and rewarding future!  Click here  for more information and an application.

Officer of the Year

The Mississippi Law Enforcement Officer's Association recognizes an officer each year for their accomplishments with an “Officer of the Year” award.  This honor is bestowed upon an officer who has demonstrated outstanding achievements in the service of their community.  The emphasis of this award is not based on a single act of heroism but for those who excel in the daily performance of their duty and demonstrate a distinct pattern of dedication and professionalism.  Agencies are encouraged to nominate officers for this award by submitting a letter outlining their accomplishments.  The association will accept nominations until May 1st of each year.  Support documentation such as newspaper articles and letters of commendation may be attached and forwarded to:
