Lee McDivitt, President
President’s Message
It is my sincere honor to have been elected to the position of president of the Mississippi Law Enforcement Officers Association. Since the inception of the Association in June 3, 1954, it has been the goal of the Association to better the overall conditions of both the work and personal lives of law enforcement officers from across the state and beyond.
I would like to take this time to personally thank Windy Swetman, James Morgan, Rena Wiggins, the City of D’Iberville, and the individuals and law enforcement departments from the Gulf Coast that the made the 2011 Mississippi Law Enforcement Officers Association such a wonderful success this summer. I would also like to say a special thank you to all the motor officers from both Mississippi and Louisiana who have given and continue to give so much to the Association.
In the coming months, the Association will be traveling across the State of Mississippi attending different events to sell raffle tickets to the Polaris ATV we purchased to offset the price of hotel rooms for next summer’s conference. I encourage all members to attend these events for fellowship and the betterment of the association. If we, as members, all come together as one unified body there is nothing that can not be accomplished. In the words of John Heywood “Many hands make light work.”
I plan to work diligently with the board of the Association on several different issues. Some of these include: a higher monetary benefit for death in the line of duty, more types of cutting edge training we offer to officers, and better lobbying in the Mississippi legislature on issues that directly affect members of the association and law enforcement throughout the state.
I am also very proud of this year’s 1st annual Charlie Sims leadership award which was given to the man for which it was named. Most of the awards given in law enforcement are given posthumously to our heroes who have laid down their life for the betterment of society. For once, I am glad we could recognize both a hero to the association and to law enforcement without the painful memories and tears that go along with most law enforcement awards. Each of us should try to be like Charlie in both our professional and private lives and should work hard this year to be a leader and possibly receive this highly regarded award.
If you or your department are not currently members of the Association please join us and become a member of a very special organization with a extremely devoted group of men and women that boasts a membership of approximately 1,300 officers from federal, state, and local departments across the State of Mississippi.
We now have a Facebook Account. Check it out at this link:
